Using VPN Client thru Wireless Connection Problems
Issue: Windows 7 Pro using a Cisco VPN client to remotely access a Windows 2003 network from the clients home, which is a secured connection. Connection is made and everything works fine except when trying to open any files on the server, everything
stops responding. Can do the same thing from another location and everything works fine. Looking at the connection (I didn't set it up initinally) Windows things it's connection thru a public unsecured hotspot.
Question: How do, or can I change how windows classifies this connection? Do I have to delete the connnection and start over? Windows needs to classify this conneciton as secure.
This is what I get for avoiding Vista and 7 until I am forced into using it.

Hi,
Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet Forum.
For a test, I suggest you could disable the firewall on the client to check how it works.
Also, please check the event viewer to see if there is any useful information in it.

The problem I have diagnosing this issue is I have to go to the clients home to see what the system is doing. A real problem. I disabled the Windows firewall. He says that it worked "better" but would still refuse to open some documents on the server.
Further questioning revealed that he is most likely trying keep a number of Word (03) and .PDF documents open at the same time. This is further compounded by the fact that I didn't set up the wireless connection for this system at his home. I need to change
the settings to tell Winodws that this particular connection is NOT a public access point but a secured private connection. SO far, I have not found where to do this. The beatings will continue until morale improves!

Hi,
Thanks for updating.
Based on my understanding, the VPN Client works with a Cisco VPN server to create a secure connection between your computer and the private network, according to
your description, it may be caused by Cisco VPN configuration or software conflicts, please try to boot into Safe Mode with Networking to check the result.
If this issue persists, it is also recommended to contact Cisco support for further help, since they are familiar with their products:
