Using regini to change data value
Hello, I am trying to create a batch file that will enable/disable USB mass storage for a specific user. I currently have a GPO that disables USB storage deployed to our company but there is one specific user I want to allow access to enable and disable it without creating a new OU. So I figured I would create two batch files; one to enable USB and another to disable it. I've researched regini but I cannot get it to work. Its a windows xp SP3 box and this is what I type at command line to enable it. regini -h \Registry\Computer\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBSTOR Start = REG_DWORD 0x00000003 I get error message. Failed to load from file '0x00000003 (3) Has anyone got this to work? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Manny Mendoza

I gave the user full control to that value. Now when I enter the it doesn't return with an error but the value doesn't change. "0x0000004". I restarted the machine and it remains disabled.Manny Mendoza

Is what you've written on the regini command line exactly what you're trying to use? Shouldn't that be ...\Machine\... instead of ...\Computer\... ? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/264584 -Noel

So you're saying that wasn't the problem. Does the user have the proper permissions to change that value? Registry keys and values have ACLs. As an administrator you may need to go into the registry and change the permissions to open access to that particular little niche of the registry to him/her. -Noel

Did you allow access to the parent key as well? I'm not sure but that may be required. -Noel
