VPN Connection Issues - Nortel Vista - Switches from Connected to Local
I use VPN to connect to my desktop at work. I boot up my laptop and wait for my internet connection to connect. I have DSL and I connect via a Westell Versalink 327W wireless router. I use Internet Explorer and Nortel Contivity Client software. Here is the issue I am experiencing, my internet connection comes up fine and my display in my system tray shows connected Local and Internet. Then my connection switches to just Local. This happens more than just when I try to connect via VPN but it occurs with greater frequency when I try to connect via VPN. I mainly use Firefox for my Internet connection and it is set as my primary mode of connection.I am not a techie so i may not use the correct terms so please forgive me. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make my internet connection more stable so it will quit flip flopping? Some mornings, it can take me literally an hour to hit the right spot and get connected. I would appreciate any help or nuggets any one has on this.I have searched and searched prior to posting for an answer, maybe it's out there, but I sure didn't find it or maybe I am not using correct search terms. Thanks!

Hi, Please understand that Nortel VPN Client is not a Microsoft Product, we do not have much information on it. We do not familiar with it. I suggest you contact Nortel Support to address your problem. I wish this was a Nortel only issue but it is not. It has something to do with my network/internet access. The connection is intermittent. It suddenly switches from connected to identifying. It is a combination of issues and I have worked with my internet provider and it is not an internet issue. It is something that is set in my "connection" settings or some other type of bug.

Hi, Thank you for your update. Given the situation, please confirm the following points first. Thanks. 1.Can the Windows Vista machine detect the SSID of the wireless network? 2.Is there any other computer located in the local network? If so, how does it work? 3.Have you tried to connect the router through wired connection? How does it work? 4.If you are using dynamic IP address, please try to use static IP address. How does it work? In addition, I list some links related to Windows Vista wireless as below for your reference: How to connect to a wireless network in Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928429 MSBBN: How to troubleshoot wireless connection problems http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831770 Troubleshooting Windows Vista 802.11 Wireless Connections http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766215.aspx Hope it helps.
