VPN for Rented Office
Hello there. I am working in a rented office with 1 PC (used as a file server) and several laptops all running Windows 7. Inside the building there are several other offices (different companies). Now networking is not my strong point but if i've understood correctly our office is connected to a switch which is then connected to a gateway/router. We can only see machines in our office on the network map so i'm guessing the building's network topology consists of several LANs. My questions are: 1) Would it be possible to setup a VPN for accessing the PC from an external internet connection (bearing in mind that we don't have control over the swtiches or gateway/router)? 2) If this is not possible would GoToMyPC, or something similar, work and, if so, what makes GoToMyPC special? Any advice/comments are very much welcome.

1) No. You would need to modify the router setup to create a VPN. Maybe you can negotiate with the network administrator to create a VPN tunnel for you. 2) Yes. TeamViewer (www.teamviewer.com) can do it. It's rather expensive to buy but there is only one single charge. GoToMyPC can probably do it too but I am not familiar with it. It costs $20 per month or $180 per annum. _________________________ If this response resolves your problem, please click "Propose as answer" so that the thread can be closed. Thanks.
