Very slow initial file share access from a non-Vista PC to a Vista Share.
I'm having issues with file shares in Vista. When I share a folder and try to access that share from another system on the network it takes quite a long time (30seconds to over a minute) for the "login" prompt to come up (if the acct has a pw) or the share to popup. Once the share is up its quick and works fine so its not LAN or system speed related as far as I can tell. It is much more noticable when trying to access a Vista PC from a non-Vista PC such as XP. I have tried a few things trying to narrow it down. I tried moving them all to a switch rather than a router. I also tried removing all passwords from the user accounts so they dont prompt for UID/PW. I also tried with and without IPv6 enabled on all machines. Any ideas why this is so slow?
