Video card resolution
I am using Windows7, Ultimate with SP1. Unfortunately, my old video card does not have a Windows 7 driver and Windows 7 is using its generic driver to get this card going. My monitor has a native resolution of 1680X1050. Although my video card is somewhat old, it can support this resolution. Since Windows 7 is using its generic driver, it would not allow me to use this resolution at all. Is there any way to tweak windows 7 to get this resolution for my monitor? Thanks.

You could try a vista driver. Did the monitor come with a driver. What video card is it? Also you could try the program from this link. http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/Resolution-Changer.shtml

Try installing the newest drivers for your model in compatibility mode - it may or may not work. Troubleshoot Compatibility This can help with some (but not all) programs/drivers: 1) Uninstall the program if it's already installed. Then when you install/reinstall it instead of double clicking on the install file right click it and select "Troubleshoot Compatibility" 2) Then click "Try Recommended Settings" and in the next windows click "Start the Program" to install it. 3) After it installs see if it works correctly. Please note - some programs may not be able to run in Windows 7. Hi, As a workaround, you could change the resolution through registry. Go to position : HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG--->System--->CurrentControlSet--->Control--->VIDEO Change the following key DefaultSetting.XResolution REG_DWORD 0x00000400 (1680) DefaultSetting.YResolution REG_DWORD 0x00000300 (1050) Notice: Forced changing the resolution to high level without graphic support is harmful for hard device. If you get a black screen after changing, please boot Windows 7 in safe mode, than modify the registry back. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
