Virtual Machine - System Restore Problems
I recently attempted to install a Microsoft Virtual Machine on myWindows XPcomputer. Upon getting a "Please restart computer" message, I clicked "Restart Now". The computer powered off, and powered back on. When it powered back on, the loading screen appeared, and then the blueHP Inventscreen appeared (which was normal). But then something odd happened. A small window appeared in the left-hand corner of the screen. It read: "Loading your personal settings: System restore, Control Panel, etc......", or something along those lines. The default antivirus software window that comes with the computer appeared. The blue HP Invent screen continued to stay in the background. When I eventually clicked the "x" on the antivirus window, the taskbar, start button, etc. appeared, but most of my desktop icons were missing. I then noticed that the blueHP Ivent screen had become my desktop background. Perplexed, I navigated to the "System Restore" window. Then, several windows titled "Welcome to Windows XP", and "Tour Windows XP" appeared. I navigated to the system restore window, and chose a system restore point (which was the day before), and continued the system restore process. The system had been supposedly restored. Upon start-up, the same window in the left-hand corner appeared; the antivirus window appeared. The system restore window then appeared, confirming that the system restore was successful (which it wasn't). Everything was the same way before I had performed the system restore. In panic, I went to Internet Explorer. The browser then introduced itself, and greeted me with messages as if I had never used it, and most [if not all] of my favorites had been removed. I then assumed that my computer had been restored to factory settings. But of course, to contradict my thesis, my AVG Antivirus software that I had installed before all these problems had occured, was still on my computer. My iTunes was also still on my computer, but my entire library had been destroyed, and when I double-clicked the icon, it asked me to install the iTunes software (as if I had just downloaded it to my computer).I procceeded to try to restore my computer from different restore points, but all attempts were in vain, for no settings had been changed....... And that's my story. By the way, I'd appreciate some detailed responses as soon as possible, because this computer isn't mine anyway..... Thanks for reading guys!!1 person needs an answerI do too
