Vista/XP router network, multiple guides did not help.
Hi, I'm currently trying to do file sharing between my windows xp pro desktop and my windows vista 64 bit desktop. I have read many many guides, with absolutely no success. Here are the issues:1. Windows vista is able to detect my windows xp computer through "view full map", however I can not connect to it through "view full map" and it does not show up on the network at all normally. 2. Both desktops can ping each other by ip, but NOT by name. 3. Windows xp desktop is unable to see ANYTHING in the workgroup, not even itself. I have tried many solutions:1. downloaded and installed the LLTD discovery thing. 2. uninstalled norton antivirus completely.3. disabled windows firewall.4. Netbios over TPC5. Both computers have the same workgroup name, and I've tried changing them to other matching names. I should mention that both desktops have static ips, and the router is Dlink 614. I have tried letting both desktops automatically obtain ip addresses, but nothing works. The primary problem seems to be the fact that the windows xp desktop is unable to see anything, even itself in the workgroup. An empty workgroup can't be a good thing right? Anyone got any ideas on how to tackle this problem? Any help appreciated.
