Vista - Bitlocker - USB Startup Key
Problem I am having: (Goal)We are looking at using VISTA Bitlocker technology to encrypt the hard drives for our mobile workforce.(Testing Procedure) 1.) I ordered in an ACER Model 6460 with a TPM Chip installed. 2.) I installed Vista Enterprise using the Microsoft Step-By-Step guide. http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsVista/en/library/ba1a3800-ce29-4f09-89ef-65bce923cdb51033.mspx?mfr=true 3.) The Bitlocker encryption works fine using TPM Chip and PIN. 4.) When I tried to configure (our preferred method) TPM with Startup Key (USB stick) the laptop would not read the USB Startup Key. (Troubleshooting Steps) 5.) Updated to new BIOS didnt work 6.) Tried 5 different brands of USB Sticks didnt work- received different errors with the different brands. 7.) Updated several drivers, TPM, USB, etc didnt work 8.) Called Microsoft Support after several long hours of double checking our configuration and troubleshooting it was determined that this was a hardware problem. 9.) Called ACER Support they said that the configuration we are attempting is beyond their ability to assist and couldnt advise us on our next step, he did wish me good luck, nice fellow. 10.) Current - looking at different models of laptops to try. Any suggestions would be appriciated.
