Vista Business RTM - DNS Suddenly Stops Working For Web Browsing - OneCare Not Installed
Hello! I'm hoping someone in the group has had a similar problem as this. About 3-4 hours into my Vista session every morning (usually around 11:30a-12:30p ... wouldn't note that time other than the fact it's consistent), I suddenly lose the ability to surf the web or access anything which requires DNS type usage (Exchange Server account in Outlook for example). Wired or wireless networks do not matter, this happens on both. The network connection itself is still there, as programs which do not rely on DNS (or directly pinging IP addresses) still works without any issues. The symptoms are very much like ones that were being described by users in another thread in which they noted Windows OneCare as being the problem. The thing is, I do not own and have never installed OneCare on this machine. Rebooting the machine always fixes the problem, but it's a pain to have to reboot a laptop in the middle of your day when putting the machine to sleep or in hibernation is much more efficient. I'll be happy to go into more detail if it will help, and all help in troubleshooting the problem is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have the same problem. It started after I uninstalled One Care. I think it's sickening. Only added on to this problem, certain servers take too long to respond. Turning off antivirus sometimes alleviates the problem. (sometimes being the operative word) I read somewhere that Vista internally makes changes on how long to wait for a network response. That might have something to do with it. I don't know. All I know is my patience for Vista in general is wearing thin, and I'm going to upgrade to xp if I don't get this problem solved by next week.
