Vista Business and Networked Documents
Hi,Strange, strange problem with this one.Networking two Vista Business machines together, VB-A and VB-2.VB-A has documents and a database in its Public Folders. VB-2 can add, edit, delete and read every file in the share with its current permissions. However, when VB-A has a .docx or the .accdb open, when VB-B tries to open the document, Word starts, the blue wheel spins for a while then says "the file at "\\VB-A\Public\doc.docx" cannot be found. Please check the location and try again" or something along thoses lines about a network problem. With the database, as soon as VB-A closes the database, it immediately opens on VB-B. This all occurs vice versa as well - if the share is on VB-B, if VB-B opens it first, etc.Now my Vista Home Basic laptop isn't affected at all if the document is already opened. Also, using Windows Server 2008 as the client, its fineI've gone through every security setting in secpol.msc but all these settings usually mean you'll have no network access at allhas anyone seen anything similar to this?thanks a lot. Next step is to rebuild these clients - i didn't set them up....Clay

Hi Clay, This issue seems a little complex. We may need some more tests to narrow down the problems scope. 1. Will newly created .docx, .accdb files occur the same problem? 2. Does this problem occur with other Office document? For example .xlsx, etc. 3. Set another folder and share it with VB-B, test if the same problem occurs with simple shared folder. Ill try to help based on your answers. Nice day! Regards, Lionel Chen

Hi Lionel,Thanks for your reply. A little vague, i'm afraid, but i'm glad you're willing to help1. Yes. All types of documents2. Yes it does. Although, it doesn't occur with an .RTF document, which doesn't use a temp file when opened, of course.3. I tried to different shares - from scratch - on both machines. still with the same outcomeI will be taking a fresh build of Business out today so i will post what happens.thanks againClay
