Vista Business hangs on login on domain.....
Thanks everyone for reading! I have currently a network of about 42 workstations 8 of them are running Windows Vista Business SP1, the rest are Windows XP Professional SP3. My farm is a mixed bread of Windows Server 2003 Standard SP2, Windows Server 2003R2 SP2 and Windows Server 2008 standard. When logging in it will take only 3 of my Vista business machines 3 hours to load. I have shut off Receive-Side Scaling State, Chimney Offload State, Receive Windows Auto-Tuning Level, ECN Capability, RFC 1323 Timestamps. I have done them individually, paired and all together in every mixed mode that you can think of. I have ID it down to TCP, When using wire shark and TCP Viewer I have seen when doing a GPUpdate the system send packets with 0 to 14kb (So my Hypothesis says it has to do with GP). I have read many articles on this but no success. My primary DC is a Windows 2003 Standard SP2 and my 2nd is Windows 2008 Standard. DNS is on my 2003 standard. My R2 runs my Sharepoint. For my firewall I have checkpoint in place (Will soon be ISA 2006 as my RAS). Can anyone help me figure out whats up... you can email me at rsexton1980@yahoo.com Thanks... Robert

Hi Robert, I've been having very similar problems. Have been looking for a solution for this for the past couple of months. Have about 50 Win XP sp2 &sp3 machines, all logon fine, wireless no complaints. Have about the same number of dual booting Apple iMac & MacBook's running OS X Leopard & Vista Ultimate. Whenever logging on to Vista logon can take anything up to 20mins. Servers Running 2003 R2 (Domain Controller). Separate 2003 STD DHCP & DNS Server, 2003 STD Application Server, Leopard X-Serve for LDAP on OSX clients. all DNS addresses on client's are fine. for windows logons: AD vbs scripts map and rename network drives lots of GPO's (all seem to work fine in Vista & XP) I am using the R2 server to deploy printers. Are you doing the same thing by chance!? I've seen a couple of posts on different forums about on the net that seem to suggest maybe this is causing the problem but none of the resolve's I've come across work. Nathan

Yes I am, I have narrowed it down to a definite GP problem, I will be delegating control of the network to the 2008 as my PDC. I have made a test domain of 4 dc of 2008 with the same vista machines having the problem. Before I did all of this I wiped the SIDs of each machine thinking a possible SID problem then I re-added them back to the domain that they developed the problem. not it... but as soon as I put it on a complete domain of 2008 good news, it worked. How ever I also made a test network with 2k3 and 2k8 with 2k3 as my PDC and ran in to the same problem... hang on login. I will keep you posted on the delegation move this weekend... it seems to me that 2k8 wants to take control of GP along with 2k3....
