Vista Cannot Edit files on the Share
I have Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 machine running on the Dell Desktop. It is having problem edition files on the network shares located on the HP Media Share file server. I have no problems copying files back and forse, editing them on the PC and copying them back to the share, so permissions wise I am ok. However if I open file directly on the share I am not able to save some of them (Word) or reopen others (Excel, jpg). System complaining either about drive being full (Word) or file is open by another program (excel, jpg). The strange thing about it is that this behavior started to happen after Vista repairs that were recommended by MSFT tech support to resolve automatic updates issue. I had no problems before that. Repairs were done using original Vista DVD.My guess is that Vista is not releasing locks on files as I can see .TMP file created on the shared drive for every open file. Hoever, even if I delete the TMP file problem is still there. TO resolve the problem I need either to restart explorer.exe or reboot a PC plus disconnecting and reconnecting netowrk drive. This way I will be able to access file on the share but still once I do that editing is a problem.Any help is appreciated

Hi, Thank you for posting. Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Check the following security settings: 1) Ensure you log on all the computers with the Administrator account. 2) Check both Sharing and Security settings on all of the computers shares properties, and make sure that you have assigned the Full-Control permissions to Everyone. 2. Check if you can create a new file to the share folder. 3. Just for a test, please also try to disable sharing and reconfigure the shares referring to the following document: File and Printer Sharing in Windows Vista http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx 4. If there is another computer on the network, please check if it also encounters this issue. Hope this helps. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT
