Vista HP / W7 ClamWin AV
Greetings One & All! I use ClamWin which works with Vista and appears to be working correctly with W7. I did a scan which came up clean BEFORE doing my Windows Update. I made a habit of this a long time ago so when my system goes NeRkY then i know if it is caused by doing Windows Update. After doing Windows Update and re-scanning with ClamWin i got this...... (excerpt from scan report) Scan Started Mon Jun 01 13:26:54 2009 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- D:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\b8e2580a588ec9c449a161aa57cbe3666cc49d1c: Worm.VB-740 FOUND ----------- SCAN SUMMARY ----------- Known viruses: 570837Engine version: 0.95.1Scanned directories: 19607Scanned files: 106043Infected files: 1Data scanned: 22224.78 MBData read: 24994.83 MB (ratio 0.89:1)Time: 7714.905 sec (128 m 34 s) --------------------------------------Completed-------------------------------------- Could be a false positive (maybe) but i wanted to check around to be sure before making any accusations about gettin a worm from Windows Update. Cheers! Dave Anyone else pull this up on a virus scan with any of the other virus scanners?

djg5211,What i would do is upload this file to http://www.virustotal.com/.This site will tell you how other virus scanners will detect this file. The next step is review what this Worm.VB-740 does. And see if you can find any traces on your computer (other files, registery keys, ...).Also, try to update your ClamWin AV definitions. In case they updated there detection logics.Does this resolves your problem?Kind RegardsDFT

Hello, I am facing the same problem with my pc. I have done yesterday a complete scan with ClamWin free AV which did not detect any issue. Afterwards, I update windows with SP2 for vista and also all updates for office 2003 (it's a new Asus PC which I bought this week). I did a complete scan again (because before I was under Ubuntu and I have downloaded all my emails on outlook) to be sure that there is no problem. And then I found this report of ClamWin saying that : there's 1 infected file, which is the same one as you, C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\b8e2580a588ec9c449a161aa57cbe3666cc49d1c: Worm.VB-740 FOUND I looked in the internet and found only this discussion and also other topics in a French site and German and Spanish sites (unfortunately I understand only French). I did what was recommended and when the file which is "infected" for ClamWin is tested by "virus total", it is specified that it is a virus but only for ClamWin (and not for other good AV like BitDefender and Avira Antivir). So do you think that this is realy a virus or is it an error from ClamWin? May be this file is something used by Microsoft to send for instance crash reports or things like that? Can you help please?

Hello, I am using Vista but also encountered the vb 740 worm when attempting to download sp2. I also get the error: Code 5. I can get rid of the worm with Moon Secure Antivirus, but whenever i try to download sp2 it pops up again. This is what it says on the antivirus, C:Windows\Software Distribution\Download\Install. I even put the computer back to its shipping condition, but the worm still came up when i got to sp2. Please help and thank you.
