Vista Home Basic can't connect to Internet ...
A Vista Home Basic PC will not connect to the Internet anymore. It can successfully ping the default gateway and its loopback address, but it will not successfully ping its own IP (v4) address for some reason. Also, DNS queries will resolve a domain name to an IP address, and the Vista Gadget will receive news updates. But the machine will not browse the Internet with either IE or Firefox. We have tried Public and Private LAN configs, repeated Diagnostics, updating the LAN drivers, deleting and reinstalling the LAN drivers, using the 'netsh winsock reset' command, disabling IPv6, and using static and dynamic IP addresses - but nothing seems to work. TIA for any help on this one ...
