Vista Home Premium user - can't ping self...
I'm hoping someone might be able to help me out. I'm unable to ping the static IP address (192.198.0.3)on my own laptop.Does Vista require mylaptop tobe connected to a LANfor this to work? My goal hereis to eventually network my laptop to an older PC running NT4.0 Workstation. Any assistance would be appreciated - thanks.

Hi, Thank you for posting. Before moving on, please let me know if the computer network connections is connected. Then, please try to ping the computer self by another static IP address 127.0.0.1. Does it work? If the issue still persist, please run IPCONFIG /ALL and post the result on the forum. Thank you for your cooperation.

I appreicate the quick reply back. The 2 computers (NT Workstation PC and Vista laptop) are connected via anetwork hub. I'm able to ping each computer's NIC via 127.0.0.1 without incident. I'm still unable to ping the laptop's IP address (192.198.0.3) from the laptop itself though. I can ping the PC's static IP address (192.198.0.2) from the PC itself without a problem. I'm having problems pasting a screenshot of the IPCONFIG /ALL into this message though. I'll try to get that to you 1st chance I get, but I'll send you the answers above for the time being.

Hi, Thank you for your detail information. According to your IPCONFIG result, could you please let me know if you are using ICS? In addition, could you please disable your Wireless LAN Adapter and reboot the computer to ping self again? Thanks.

I'm not familiar with the Internet Sharing feature (ICS)to which you refer. Should this feature be set to ON or OFF on both computers? I'll go ahead and disable the wireless adapter on my laptop at homewhen testing this next. I'll follow-up with you afterwards. Thanks.

I thought you could not network Home editions of Windows. Is that available now?

The problem still exist, even after disabling the wireless adapter. Should I go ahead and tryenabling ICS on the Vista box?It says that ICSwill not work with stat IPs though. Is the ICS feature configurable on the NT Workstation computerto which I'm eventually trying toconnect?
