Hi,I've recently bought a new ASUS F8SN notebook with Vista Home Premium (French) pre-installed.I had trouble installing my network HP PSC2610 All-in-one printer-scanner-fax, (which works fine for my XP and W2k PCs on the same network) and after finally managing to install it it has since disappeared twice from the "Printers" page, and needed re-installing.The last time was yesterday, and I've not managed to reinstall it yet, but in my rather violent attempts to remove the previous driver software I ran a special file (gr_uninst.exe) from the HP site, and then removed the major folders from the Registry that were called HP or Hewlett Packard.I don't know if the above is relevant, but now I almost never get the dialog asking for my password when I launch a program that requires it. e.g. when I click on the button to see all users processes in the Task Manager, it just sits there updating its processes information as before, but rings a bell at me if I click on it.I can then start Total Commander from the Quick Launch bar, and its UAC Password dialog pops up normally, and I can then kill content.exe via one of its addons so that the Task Manager comes back to life.I have now installed the HP software via its "install without seeking the printer first" functionality, but when I right-click on the Printers page and select "Executre as Administrator" -> "Add a printer", I get the same reaction as for the Task Manager - the Printers window only beeps if I click on it, and no dialog appears to ask for my password or to install a printer. I kill consent.exe from Total Commander, and the Printers window is usable again.Unfortunately, launching "Add a printer" without the "as administrator" part and selecting the networked HP PSC 2610 only goes most of the way before giving an error and aborting.On the other hand, I can link to it via the XP computer by brwsing the web and right-clicking on the other PC's printer.So, can anyone please tell me how to get my UAC password dialog back?Thanks,Chris

Hi, This UAC issue can be caused by several factors. In order to narrow down the root cause, lets troubleshoot this issue by taking the following suggestions. Suggestion 1: Disable UAC===========================1. Open User Accounts. To do this, click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then click msconfig.exe in the Programs list. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue. 2. On the Tools tab, click Disable UAC, and then click Launch. 3. Close the Command Prompt window, and then restart the computer.4. Test this issue. NOTE: Please reset the UAC setting after performing above suggestions. Suggestion 2: Clean boot=================1. Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter. Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC) window. 2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK. Please test this issue in the Clean Boot environment, if the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue. If the issue still persists, please try to take a system restore to test this issue.
