I want network my vista home premium laptop to XP sp3 (with LLTD) desktop. I connected both PCs with cross-cable. Then: * Both PCs have user account /password * PC names are unique * IP, subnetmask, workgroup scheme are same * Gateway, DNS are blank * Both PCs Firewall are off * On vista network discovery, Password protected file sharing is on * Simultaneous users number of Shared folder are greater than 1 But I can't able to ping Xp to Vista error is "request time out" and when I ping Vista to XP error is "reply from (IP): destination host unreachable" or "request time out". Also I ping XP IP but vista gives me above error with its own IP. When I simultaneously ping each other they both give "request time out". What is the wait for entire night to see both of them in each other nothing is happening. Also can't able to ping each other by name. Please Help me!

Ok the problem is in my cable. But Now despite i am not able to see both PCs into each other and also not able to ping by name, I can browse their shared folders through their IP addresses. Also Vista is displaying the map of network

Hi, Thank you for your post. Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Please check the host file on the computers to see if there are some abnormal entries. 2. Ensure NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on both computers ==================================================== 1) Go to Control Panel - Network Connections. 2) Right-Click on the connection and click Properties. 3) Find Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Version 4 in the list. 4) Click Properties, and then click Advanced. 5) On the Advanced TCP/IP settings windows, go to WINS tab. 6) Under NetBIOS setting, click Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP, and then click OK.
