Vista and MSCHAP Version 1
I just started rolling out Vista, and just found that Microsoft stopped offering mschap pptp type connections with Vista. Why does Microsoft continue to create standards that others (Cisco) for instance adopts, and then drops it. This leaves a lot of administration work upgrading devices which are currently doing their job just fine. This has brought my Vista rollout to a stop. Thank You Microsoft for continually making me look at options other than Microsoft!!!!!

Hi jcloyd, Thank you for the post. I fully understand the inconvenience the issue has caused and the current situation can be frustrating. MS-CHAPv2 is much better than MS-CHAPv1 in view of security. MS-CHAPv1 only performs one-sided entity authentication and encryption. Thus, for security enhancement, we removed it in Windows Vista. For more information, please refer to the following KB article: The MS-CHAP version 1 authentication protocol has been deprecated in Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926170/en-us Thank you for your understanding. So in light of all of the problems was this ever "un-deprecated"?I'd just rather have the pix and servers upgraded on my time.
