Vista cannot connect to intenet
my VISTA64 sp1 pc all of a sudden cannot connect to the internet anymore. This is a dual boot machine, in XPsp3 mode I can surf just fine, hence hardware is fine. The problem started about 2 weeks ago. The Network and Sharing Center shows:Computer ------ Network ---X--- InternetRunning Network Diagnostics only confirms there is a problem:"Windows has confirmed that this computer is currently experiencing a network connectivity problem --> Windows found a problem that cannot be repaired automatically".Problem is the same with DHCP and with fixed IP address. Can only ping other computers on my network but not anyone on the internet. All system restores failed. Uninstalled AV software, no change.Googling didn't help much, tried suggestions like resetting Winsock, disabling firewall; all to no avail.Any suggestions?

Hi,
Thank you for posting.
Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following:
1. Please ensure that the router and NIC are compatible with Windows Vista.
You can check the compatibility information of the devices in the following site:
Windows Vista Compatibility Center
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/default.aspx
2. Remove and reinstall the NIC driver. If there is a new version of driver, please also try it.
3. Check network settings:
Please go to Control Panel Network Connections, right click on your connection and choose Properties. (if you have multiple connections, please check the one you use and disable the unnecessary ones. )
1) On the Network Tab of your Connection properties, please choose Internet Protocol Version 4 and click "Properties. And then check if both of the IP Address and DNS are set to be delivered automatically.
2) If it is set to obtain the IP Address and DNS automatically, please try to manually assign IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and the DNS settings referring to your routers settings to see if this works.
4. Just as a test, please connect the computer to the Internet cable directly (bypass the router) to check the issue.
If the issue persists, please run ipconfig /all on the computer and post the report to the thread for our further research.
Hope this helps. Thanks.

Jenae from Techforumsupport suggested: "rare to see a winsock problem in Vista not so rare is the tcp\ip stack If you haven't, open a command prompt (right click "run as administrator") and at the prompt type:-
Code:
netsh int ip reset
Press enter then type exit press enter
If after reboot still no joy open device manager search type:-devmgmt.msc navigate to your network card right click select uninstall (when prompted DO not remove the drivers) Reboot to take effect. Try internet now."netsh did the trick

I had the same problem, It would work in Ubuntu, but not Vista, so I knew it was software.
This fixed it immediately.
Thank you!
