Vista has trouble staying connected for about three weeks? Come here....
I hope this also helps anyone that's been in my shoes. I have never had any issues with my connectivity till about three weeks ago when everything started. For some reason or another I kept dropping my connection, indentifying my network, finding multiple networks even though I was the only network around. I tried everything from regedit and changing values, purchased three different routers, wireless cards and adapters and have been going insane. All to find out that its just one update probablyresponsible for this. Someone had mentioned that we remove the IE7 security update that was pushed outon the 4/9/08.I told myself that it would be too extreme to have touninstall this whole issue and decided to read the detail on every installed update from around the beginningto the middle of april, when I started tohave issues. Sure enough, there was the update and I wentto uninstalling that update. It's an update meant for people who have problems with disconnections in vista but if you download the update, it will give you that same exact problemof constant disconnectionslol.... The update is Update for Windows Vista - English (KB937286) Download size: 24.0 MB You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect. Update type: Optional Install this update to copy a local version of key help topics available in the Online Help feature of Windows Vista. Customers who enable the Online Help feature of the Windows Vista help system and have a persistent Internet connection do not need this update. This update is useful for customers who are frequently disconnected. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. More information: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937286 Help and Support: http://support.microsoft.com I was golden till I downloaded this on 4/15 because it was only called update for windows vista. Microsoft should have at least made it clear on the title of the update as to what the update literally was to keep people from downloading this update. I have uninstalled it, checked for updates again, saw the update and hid it for all eternity so that I never accidentally download that bad boy again. To microsoft or whoever might be in power to do so, please correct this issue with another update as some people will not go on these forums to be able to figure it out. The update title is vague and hard enough to find, so making another update or hotfix will be great..... Thnx again...

Hi, I suspect the root cause of this issue to be incompatibility between this update and one or more drivers installed (most possibly, the network card). About the action youve already taken, Ive checked the description of the update you mentioned in the following description article: (KB894199) Description of Software Update Services and Windows Server Update Services changes in content for 2008 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;894199 As it says, Customers who enable the Online Help feature of the Windows Vista Help system and who have a persistent Internet connection do not need this update. This update is useful for customers who are frequently disconnected. Accordingly, uninstalling and hiding this optional update wont weaken the security or reliability of you system, provided that you never faced related connection issues before this update installation. Thanks for your sharing! Regards, Lionel Chen
