WIN 7 Ultimate N x64 connected to Local Network LAN but can't reach internet WAN?
Fresh install of WIN 7 Ultimate N x64 on new build. Bios and all drivers updated to most current. All seems to be going fine in this initial 'test' case for new hardware and migration from XP pro to WIN 7. However . . . I noticed that the NIC is up and running and I can reach all network resources, but when I open IE 7 I get the typical 'cannot display webpage' error. On further inspection, the network sharing center shows the network connection but no internet connection. This location has the typical small office setup with a single Server that is the DC, AD, DHCP, DNS ,file/print server roles. They use a single Omnistack 6148 switch with a SonicWall firewall gateway from an SMC cable modem/router. I bypassed the SonicWall and Omnistack switch by feeding the CAT5 directly into the cable modem - still no internet. I have NOT joined the domain yet on this PC, but it is still getting DHCP info from the server so I'm guessing it is also getting the DNS info. I flushed the DNS cache, released and renewed the IP address (got the same address though), reset the TCP/IP stack. I confirmed DHCP and DNS services are running. Everything is set to get DHCP and DNS info automatically. I can ping server and SonicWall gateway (once reconnected) no problem (and anything else on the LAN). But if I attempt to ping anything outside the LAN I get the typical request timed out message. I'm thinking this has to be a DNS issue, but I can't ping even with a full numerical IP address. I haven't done a lot of WIN 7 installs from scratch, so I'm hoping I'm just missing something simple, but I'm at a loss. Various logs copied below. I can load up wireshark if that would be of help, but I don't know the program very well so I would need to fumble around a bit to get any valuable data. I considered looking at various AD group policy issued related to DNS registry records, but I don't think this *can* be the problem as I have NOT joined the domain yet - but I'm very open to anyone saying not joining the domain *IS* precisely the problem when the DC is also the DNS and DHCP server. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- C:\Users\WILLIAM>ipconfig /all Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : INTERGY07 Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 6C-62-6D-EA-38-12 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::65bc:b863:554e:cbf8%11(Preferred) IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.124(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Sunday, April 17, 2011 6:23:04 PM Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Thursday, May 25, 2147 12:52:33 AM Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.10 DHCPv6 IAID . . . . . . . . . . . : 241984109 DHCPv6 Client DUID. . . . . . . . : 00-01-00-01-15-3B-E2-BC-6C-62-6D-EA-38-12 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.10 24.217.0.5 24.217.201.67 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled Tunnel adapter isatap.{B6E89507-04A3-46F7-ACDC-59945A4A8AB6}: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Microsoft ISATAP Adapter Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
