What licencing arrangments will Windows 7 have? Will there be a Multi-Licence pack?
As a family, we have 4 kids, that are here & there and they hope that their next computer will come from us (their money is better spent on other things, so they remind us???? All in their teens & early 20's), when the RTM is released how much is it going to cost me????Will I be able to buy one disk with a multi Licence, may be a 5 pack or6 pack at a discount price, will I have to buy? disks at $???.00 per disk? Gees how many copies of the same disk do I need, I suppose I will need back-ups?Will it be better if I get a licencing deal like a computer store? that would be good, but how much cheaper? Can I do that?Regards Fagan

Well Wolfie, I've stayed tuned & found I can get Win7 Professionalon pre-purchase for $us99.95 (or Home for$us49.95), it's just a shame I Live in Australia, and not the US, so willI have to wait till it hits the shelf???In the terms oftoday; I can buy an onlinedownload from say?; eBay (Seller in? Anchorage) & get it in (let's stretch it) 15 minutes (Depending on the size, & if it is set for auto-exchange on reciept of payment), but I can't buy a new O/S that is to be released in just under 4 months WORLDWIDE (As A Download, +Backup Media an extra$us14.99), for the online special pricethat someone in America can, because I live in a different country? Microsoft are like the current government in any country (as long as they are popular) Safe, everyone wants them, they won't complain thatthey are going to rip individual countries off, I read recently in a forum discussing what the price will be & someone said "they bet that the us$ price would be the British Pound price"; Will it be 199.95 (none pre-purchase)worldwide in your currency or current exchange rate (us$)I Look Forward to hearing how I can purchase Win7 And how much here in AustraliaThis is courtesy of Microsoft.com.au is this my best option? Fagan - Welp... I don't know what, if any incentives Microsoft plans for the rest of the world. You'd think Australia would be a fairly big market. Yo'd think they'd be doing something for the folks down under. As it is now, we can buy the prepurchase deal in the States - but we won't be seeing anything until at least October 22nd. The regular prices for Windows 7 in USD - after the promotion ends will be as follows: Upgrade Full RetailHome Premium: $120 $200Professional: $200$300Ultimate:$220$320Beyond that, I have no clue what they're planning for anywhere else... Once again, stay tuned...

I can say without question that Microsoft will have some sort of volume licensing for those places that use volume licensing. Now will they have something like the Mac OS family pack which allows up to 5 computers to run under the single license??? Who knows but it sure would go one more step to helping people keep honest. One of the people I work with is all Mac, that family pack saved him about $300 when he upgraded four machines to OS 10.5.x so it definitely has a value and is hopefully something that Microsoft is thinking of doing.

Hi Greg, That's what I would like to see, would save me heaps! $200 - 300 per licence means between $600 - 900 just for my laptop, desktop & the wifes laptop, so sticking with XP sounds a lot cheaper!Hi Wolfie,Yes you would think that Australia being the size it is; that microsoft would try to target it with a deal similar to the US, well I hope they see the light and offer something like a Value pack and the Pre-Purchase, I don't mind waiting for October, I won't even mind if I can buy the promo deal in US$'s, now I have some friends up in British Columbia (Canada) do they meet the guidelines for the promo, maybe I could use their address? that would definately save me some cash since it is a download!? ;)Regards FaganIf You Find an Answer to a question, you feel is helpful click the link in the corner!

Greg - They kinda sorta did something along those lines with Vista. If memory serves, if you bought Vista Ultimate, you could buy 3 additional Home Premium licenses at a discount. This time around - who knows... Fagan -Canada does appear to be on the list of eligible countries... And the promotion IS on.. Give 'em a shout and see if they're willing to help you out...
