What version
I had XP SP3 installed and did a clean install of Win7 RC build 7100. Running like a dream I might add. But, the question is, What version must I purchase when it be comes available? I have pre ordered the upgrade version, for delivery at the end of October

Fraser - wait!Accouding to this chart you can upgrade from XP with an upgrade pricedversion of windows 7 but you would have to do a "clean install" - back up your documents and completely wipe out the existing XP installation. The fine print at the bottom explains it.http://mossblog.allthingsd.com/files/2009/08/windows-upgrade-chart.png

Thanks, now I know! Full version must be bought. No, you absolutely do not need to buy the full version if you have aqualifying and activated OS. As long as you can go back to XP (i.e., you didn't remove your OS without providing yourself an ability to restore), just reinstall or restore XP and then just use the upgrade disks to do a clean install ofWindows7. At least I hope people have not been wiping out legal OSs for a beta without making sure they can step back. Please just go to the following page at the Microsoft Store for details and pricing: http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/Windows-Windows-7/category/102. As per the bit in bold on the page: "You qualify for Windows 7 upgrade versions if you are running genuine Windows Vista, Windows XP, or Windows 2000 on your PC."If you want Ultimate on day of release, and you still have XP, you need to buy the upgrade version for $219. You will also need to do a clean install, but since you have XP, you'll have to do that regardless of which version of Windows 7 you purchase. That doesn't require dropping the extra money on the full version - you just run the clean install from the upgrade disk. BTW, if you pre-orderedWindows 7 Home Premium when it was $49, save your money and just buy the anytime upgrade to Ultimate after the release date. The anytime upgradeis supposed to be priced at $140. Stephen
