When Vista connects to my wireless - my xp laptop loses connectivity
My linksys router has worked fine with an Apple, a Vista desktop and two XP laptops running wireless connections through it. One laptop died and we replaced it with a Vista powered laptop. Everything connects but when the Vista Laptop connects - my xp laptop loses connectivity. I can find the router. I can even - very slowly - get it to connect. But the xp won't pass enough info for it to function. Turn the Vista machine off and the xp machine is fine again. If XP is on the internet and the Vista machine connects, XP instantly gets a limited connectivity message and stops. If XP hooks up via cable - everything works fine.If I shut off the Vista machine - XP works fine.XP laptop hooks up to any public wireless fine.Linksys router is model # wrt54g v8.Any ideas? Please?

Hi, Based on my research, there are some similar issues occurring with Linksys WRT54G that has both Windows Vista and Windows XP connecting wirelessly. In that case, you may need to contact Linksys to report this issue to see if any fix is available. From Windows side, Id love to suggest some steps for you to try: 1. Update the firmware for Linksys WRT54G Version 8 via the following website:http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1166859837401&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&displaypage=nodata#versiondetailTo update the firmware, you can refer to the following help document:http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4030&p_created=1160108009&p_sid=NzaeCjJi&p_accessibility=0&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MTg0JnBfcHJvZHM9MCZwX2NhdHM9MTcyMSwxNzIzJnBfcHY9JnBfY3Y9Mi4xNzIzJnBfc2NmX2xhbmc9MSZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PWZpcm13YXJlIHVwZ3JhZGU*&p_li=&p_topview=1 2. Enable the DHCP function of the router, set static IP for each of your computer. 3. Try to change a channel of the router. Hope it helps! If the steps above dont stop the issue, its still recommended to contact Linksys for further assistance. Important Note: This response contains a reference to a third party World Wide Web site.
