I am running Forefront Client Security and it adds "Software Explorers" into the Control Panel. There was anannouncement that Microsoft is going to be creating a free version of their security suite. Hi GaryLamI'm not sure why Software Explorer was removed, but you can use the free Autoruns Utility from Microsoft. The functionality of this program is very similar to Software Explorer.Autoruns for Windows: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspxHope this helps. Ronnie Vernon MVP

I love software explorer in defender. I have sent feedback on that about 4 times now. They need to put it back in.

I agree. This function is very useful and it should definitely be a part of Windows Defender. The autoruns program does not appear to show currently running programs or internet-connected programs. This was another useful function in Windows Defender software explorer and it would be great to at least have that part back.
