Why does Windows 7 (32-Bit) Freeze when it uses Accelerated Video Card drivers?
HelloI would like to try and resolve a problem that I have found on Windows 7 BETA Build 7000!The issue is that when I have installed my Video Card Drivers (Which are accelerated Video Card Drivers) and then I come to run applications and games that use the accelerated Direct3D Support from the drivers the whole system locks up when i run the application it just goes dead like for example if I run Solitaire then it will lockup and also running other software like for Example Windows Live Messenger 2009 that too locks up the system so I have to power off the machine by holding in the power button until it turns off and then reboot and its fine unless like live Messenger it starts automatically at startup(or any other program that starts at startup) then the system will lockup then as well at startup when it tries to run live messenger! Please Help me!It would could is microsoft could come up with a fix for this issue as I know it cannot be the drivers as they work perfectly well in XP and Vista!

Your query GarethS08, is a little too 'vague' to answer easily. Perhaps you can describe your installation process in more detail so we can try to help diagnose your problem(s).

well i had finished installing Windows 7 from a clean install and I had installed my video card by extracting the files out of the .ZIP Archive that they were in on memory stick so I extravted them to my hard drive then used Device Manager in Control panel to install them because When I tried installing them from the Setup Program it kept saying that It couldnt find a Standard VGA Adapter installed when there was one but I use the same process in Vista and Havent had any problems!

Man who care what you do if we do not know what is your video???!!!!!!!!And why you hurry to install some old drivers that are not for W7?

As Ventsislav states, without knowing what video card and drivers you are using there is no way to start diagnosing the problem, just because drivers worked fine in XP and Vista doesn't mean that they will work at all in Windows 7. In theory they should work but theres no guarantee.

@GarethS08 I am going to chime in like the others. You have to provide some details about your hardware and what drivers you installed. Who makes your video card? Is the chipset based on ATI, NVIDIA, or something else? What is the designation of the card? What drivers did you load? Were the XP or Vista drivers? Just making mention of an accelerated video card pretty much includes hundreds, if not thousands, of present and past video cards. We can help, but you have to help up help you.

HelloIm sorry that I didnt provide the right information I will do that now!The video card in my Laptop (It happens on my laptop when it runs Windows 7 BETA Build 7000) I believe to be an ATI Mobility Radeon 7000 (M6-C <<<< THats how it appears on my machine to be labeled as but I found its actually the 7000 Graphics card!) amd the drivers are direct from the Toshiba Website whjere I downloaded them but Toshiba had got them Direct from ATI so i downloaded the pack and installed them via Device Manager like I said it worked vin XP and Vista why not windows 7?I hope that is enough information for you now and I hope that this can be fully resolved!Sorry fior wasting your time over this!

HelloThank you for your response!I appreciate you help but im afraid to say that I Dont think that Driver will work with my Video Card because my Video card is the ATI Mobility Radeon 7000 Graphics card that has been around for about 6 years now I think but I know it worked with XP and Vista so I wandered if I could get it to work in Windows 7 BETA Build 7000 As I really want it to work!I have Explained my situation at the top of the page!

All because something worked in a previous version does not mean that it will work with a newer versionespecially when you account for architectural differences and underlying security measures. An operating system is more than just a pretty, or not so pretty, face. Now, about your graphics card. You may be able to get away with using the Radeon 7000 series drivers for XP, but be warned that using an older driver model (XDDM) will undermine the integrity of your Windows 7 installation. Only newer WDDM driver models are guaranteed full support and system integrity. The lockups and issues you are reporting can be a result of the XDDM driver model in use. The only real fix for the issue is for the Video card manufacture to create WDDM 1.1 drivers. That is what Windows 7 fully supports.

Hi GarethS08:I think DarenHawk67 has the answer. The Windows7 Release Notes say:"Video drivers Systems which use XDDM drivers may completely stop responding in certain scenarios. The computer will not respond to CTRL+ALT+DELETE and you will have to cycle the power to restart the computer, with the attendant risk of loss of unsaved data. Some activities which have been demonstrated to trigger this issue include, but are not limited to: Using Winsat.exe or using the Rate and improve your computers performance tool.Changing multi-monitor configurationsDVD or other video playback To avoid this, do not use XDDM drivers, but find an appropriate WDDM driver instead. If your video chipset does not have a WDDM driver (such as the Intel 915), use a VGA driver or an GPU that supports WDDM drivers."The url for the Win7 Release Notes is:http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/D/B/FDBFC5A5-51CD-4C8D-9F18-7BCC3810498E/Windows%207%20Beta%20Release%20Notes.htmAnd:http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/D/B/FDBFC5A5-51CD-4C8D-9F18-7BCC3810498E/Windows%207%20Beta%20Things%20to%20Know.htm

Hello, I'd suggest installing the previousdriver inCompatibility mode. Remove that hardware device in Device Manager, right-click on the driver executable/installer file and select the Compatibility tab; click the checkbox before Run this program in Compatibility mode for option and select Windows Vista in the list-down box; then try installing the device driver. In addition, you can use the Windows XP driver for testing. If the problem still persists, please understand that Windows 7 is a new operating system (only the beta version) and whole driverstore has been reprogrammed; some old driver is not compatible with new OS. I suggest that you should wait for another period of time till the retail version is released and push the vendor company to upgrade their device driver. Thanks for your time and understanding! For more details, please look at the first Sticky threadat the top ofthis forum. What can I do if my hardware does not work? This will give you some guidelines. Good Luck!
