Will one be able to upgrade from windows vista home premium to windows 7 home premium
I am running vista home premium sp1 on a laptop. Right now i am running windows 7 rc on virtual pc 2007 sp1 and it runs fine as well as windows 7 beta did. I mainly have it running because i use this computer to do free seminars on "how to keep your computer safe" and also to show Vista and I want to give a sneek peak to the public Windows 7. This is a dell vostro 1500 about 1yr old. Once Windows 7 comes out for sale, i would like to know if i can upgrade this laptop to windows 7 instead of doing a wipe out and clean install. This computer was made especially for me to be able to run a projector or tv on it in different modes Will this be at all possible? or will I have to go purchase a new computer which i really do not want to do. thanks robin

Judging from what I've read online, the answer is "Yes", only if you're doing a cross-upgrade (eg business to home or vice versa) or upgrading from XP will you have to do a clean install.-Ken

Any Microsoft employees here have that answer please? robin

The answer is still going to be "yes", I bet. I don't see way MS would change this: XP Home -> Vista Home (and/or Ultimate), XP Pro -> Vista Business (and orEnterprise/Ultimate). It makes sense for them to continue the same for 7.-ken

Hi RobinJust to make this clear, Yes you will be able to perform an upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium.Any upgrade where the version of Windows 7 is the same or higher than the version of Vista will work.Windows 7 uses a new upgrade model that solves a problem that Vista users experienced. With Vista, usersdid not like losing features when upgrading to a different version. So in Windows 7, eachversion is a superset of the previous version. No features are lostwhen upgrading. Hope this helps.Thank You for testing Windows 7 RC Ronnie Vernon MVP
