Win7 Live Mail not recognised as default mailto by other programs
Hi. Live essentials Live Mail installed and working fine on its own, but not recognised by other apps in their "send to / forward" links. In Live Mail it shows under options that it is the default mail, and also under "win7 set default programs\set mail associations" everything looks fine, showing MAILTO and MAPI to be associated to Live Mail. This problem is across multiple apps, including Chrome and esobi. Is this maybe something to do with the fact that the mail was setup later than the apps? Would have expected that not to make a difference as those apps should be making a call to registry - the apps have no specific option of their own to set up which mail to use so must just rely on MAILTO / MAPI ? Thanks

Windows Live Mail is compatible with the MailTo protocol, but is not fully MAPI compliant. Try this: 1 - Press Windows-R to open the Run box 2 - Type mailto:test@example.com 3 - Press Enter. If Windows Live Mail opened, then your configuration is correct. You may need to check your other programs that are not opening the correct app. If Windows Live Mail did not open when you did this, since you have already checked the associations, I would recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the Windows Live Mail program. Thanks Shawn. The mailto test worked ok, so looks like those applications are the problem. Thanks again, Ian. Regards, Ian
