Win7 offline files issue
Hi I'm testing the Offline Files with Win7 and Win2k3share.I made the following settings with gpo:The Documents and Favorites folder is redirected to a network share. On the computer configuration policy i set the following options for the offline files:Administratively assigned offline files is enabled and i specified the two redirected shares.Offline Files feature is enabledRemove "Make Available Oflline" is Enabled. The win7 client is connected to the network and I'm log-in. The documents and favorites are redirected to my predefined shares and marked as offline available. When I disconnect the network everything is well. I can open the files on the share so the sync was successfull. Now I create a new file on that documents share when i'm offline(not connected). This also works.I connect my win7 client to the network now the followingtwo problems appear:All folder are marked as Offline(Not connected), so they won't change the status until I log-off and I log-in again. My "in offline mode" created file won't be synced automatically with the server.I tried to connect the client to the network and restart it but the file is still not on the server, so I have to right click and sync it manually. How can I configure that the client detects when the network is online and sync it automatically? Thanks for your help

Please temporary disable the firewall on the Windows 7 computer, if the issue persists also disable the firewall on the Windows 2003 server computer.
If it does not help, please follow the steps below to change the NTLM authentication level on Windows 7 computer.
Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Please open the policy mentioned in the above article, and change the setting to Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated.
If the issue still occurs, please let us know if the redirect folders are offline after they are idle for several minutes.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Thanks for the replyWe had disabled the firewall with GPO on the domain profile. So the firewall was still turned off.I changed the "Network security: LAN Manager authentication level".But the same issue occurs.Yes, the redirect folders are still offline available after 15minutes. I can also open all files which were on the server share and now offline available.

After a lot of test i found where the problem is.I try to make the home-directory of a user offline available. We have the following directory structure:\\server\share\user-home-directoryOn the share we have full share-permission to everyone. The ntfs-permission on the share are set to admins only.On the subfolders "user-home-directory" we have full share-permission to everyone and the ntfs-permission is set to admin full- and thecorresponding user has modify-permission.When I add the domain users to the ntfs-permissions on the share and set them to list directory then the automatic synchronisation works very well. But for security reason we don't want to set this permission. If we set it, every domain userwill be able to browse all user-home-directorys.Is there another way to solve this issue with the permissions?

You need to at least give everyone the read permission to the folder share. You can remove the permission for everyone on specified folders that you would like to protect.
Please open the properties of the file, in the Security tab, click the Advanced button. Just change the permission allow everyone to access share, but not apply to all sub folders. By doing so, users will only be able to open share and cannot access any data that they cannot access previously.Arthur Xie - MSFT
