I have a Win98SE machine trying to access files on a Vista machine's shared drive. From the 98 machine I can see the files and move through the directory structure, but when I try to execute or copy a file explorer locks up for several minutes, eventually displaying an error message: "not a valid win32 application". Sometimes get: "... resource no longer available". Some files, such as .txt, are opened or copied OK. 98 is in a workgroup, Vista on a domain. No difference if I disable UAC and firewall. Ideas?
