Win 7 / Win networking
Re ShockDoctor7's post of Sunday, February 08, 2009, I have followed this procedure as far as possible, but my Win XP computer still can't see my Win 7 machine. Under Computer -> Properties -> Sharing, the Share button is greyed out and nothing I have tried will change that. I originally wanted to make all of C:\ on the Win 7 machine accessible to the Win XP PC. When I first installed the Win 7 machine last week, sharing proceeded normally and everything was accessible. For some reason this is no longer possible. No other post on this forum seems to solve my problem. Suggestions please.

The heading to my previous post should have been "Win 7 / Win XP networking" -- sorry! "How to make Windows 7 work with older Windows versions for networking and file sharing" was the title of ShockDoctor7's post of 8 Feb. 2009. When you say "Drag folders to be shared to the Public folder", I took this to mean "My Documents", which I copied over to the Public folder. Was that right? The Sharing tab mentioned in Step 3 was not always present, but there was a "Share with..." tab. Maybe the procedure described was for an earlier version of Win 7 (beta, or RC...?). An update on the advice given would be very welcome. It didn't work, anyway. MTIA.

Right click on the C: drive - Properties - Sharing tab - Advanced Sharing... - Share this folder. Does that work, or is that what is not working for you?

Hi, Please disable your third party security software like antivirus software\firewall to check the result first. Regarding to the grayed out button, if you disable File haring Wizard on Windows 7, the Share would be grayed out.Windows 7 File Sharing Wizard is similar to XP Simple File Sharing. By default, File Sharing Wizard is enabled. To disable/re-enable it, please follow these steps. 1. Open Control Panel>Classic Viewer>Folder Options or Windows Explorer>Organize>Folder and Search Options.. 2. Click on the View tab. 3. Uncheck/check the Use Sharing Wizard (Recommended) box. Note: After disabling the File Sharing Wizard, the Share option under Sharing tab will also be grayed out. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.
