Win 7 security issue
My desktop computer running Win 7 stopped opening programs and was acting quirky, so I tried all the usual methods, ran Norton antivirus, etc. Wound up taking it in to Best Buy's Geek Squad. They found 82 viruses on my computer with the explanation that some viruses are written to bypass Norton Antivirus. On my laptop I run Vista and the same programs, but do not have the same problems as with Win 7 getting viruses. Has anyone else had problems like this with Win 7?Peggy J. King

Three points: 1. In my view, and that of lots of others of us here, the Geek Squad is the worst possible place for computer support or advice. I wouldn't believe anything they say. They may say they found 82 viruses, but I wouldn't automatically believe them. 2. In my view, and that of lots of others of us here, Norton is the worst anti-virus program available. For an anti-virus program, I recommend eSet NOD32, if you are willing to pay for it. If you want a free anti-virus, I recommend one (do not run more than one) of the following three:   Avira AntiVir Avast Microsoft Security Essentials   You also need anti-spyware software. I recommend that you download and install (both freeware) MalwareBytes AntiMalware *and* SuperAntiSpyware. 3. If you really *do* have 82 viruses, that's an enormous number, and it's *highly* unlikely that you could possibly get rid of them all. Your only course of action at this point is to reinstall Windows cleanly. Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP
