Windows-7 Pro, Wireless Network, DHCP, No Default Gateway, No Internet Connection
Hello, I have two laptops - one running Windows-7 Pro and other running Windows-XP Pro. I use both laptops at home as well as at work. I am in the process of moving from XP laptop to Windows-7 laptop. At home, my home broadband network is setup with wireless router and DHCP. At home: Both laptops connect to my wireless router and correctly obtain IP address, default gateway, dns servers, subnet mask, etc. I can access internet using both laptops. Windows-7 laptop properly identifies the network and assigns it as private (home) network. At work also we have wireless network with DHCP enabled. At work Only XP laptop is able to object IP address, default gateway, dns servers, subnet mask, etc and is able to connect to internet. While, Windows-7 laptop is able to object IP address, dns servers, subnet mask, etc but NO DEFAULT GATEWAY and is NOT able to connect to internet As a result windows-7 identifies my work wireless network as "Unidentified network" and assigns it as public network. Any idea what's happening? Thanks, Yogesh Fegade

Hi, Please turn off firewall for a test. Also, try to ping a public DNS name to check whether the proper IP address is returned. If the issur persists, refer to the sravanth85's post, provide the ouput of the command.Juke Chou TechNet Community Support

Fyi, your win 7 laptop has to have the same SSID & passphrase with your workplace wireless router if the wireless security is enable Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Thanks to all who replied. After I posted the question, I observed the pattern of connecting my Win-7 laptop to work wireless network. I found that if I come to office early I I can connect without any issues. If I am late I have issues connecting to the network, however after some time my laptop connects fine. I think, this is what's happening: If I come to office early, I get IP address from the available pool and everything works well. If I come to office late, (I am guessing here) all IP addresses from the available pool are gone and I DHCP is not able to get default domain and other parameters. However as time goes by and when somebody releases the IP addresses, my laptop acquires it and then everything works well I don't know if this makes any sense!!Thanks, Yogesh Fegade
