Windows7 DNS & Domain Controller problem
I upgraded a brand new Vista PC to Windows 7 Pro. The transition seemed easy. But when I try to add this PC to our domain, I get the following error:"An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a domain controller in the doman being joined has failed."I can ping the server from the PC, I have Windows firewall disabled, etc. I'm not sure what to do.Thanks in advance for your help!Windows 7 on a Windows 2003 environment

The answer was to change the settings on the NIC card. I clicked on the properties of IVp4 and added the IP address of the domain server and that allowed me to join the domain.

Rketman,Just a note- you found the "first" solution that works across every MS Server OS when a system seemingly refuses to join a domain."All the territorial possessions of all the political establishments in the earth--including America, of course-- consist of pilferings from other people's wash. No tribe, howsoever insignificant, and no nation, howsoever mighty occupies a foot of land that was not stolen." - Mark Twain

You added the IP to the DNS section correct? This works because the Server so happens to be DNS server too. It will not work if you added a server IP that was not a DNS server. You can also add the server name with the resolved IP address in your computer's host file if you don't have access to a dns server. ThoughActive Directory requires DNS so it's very common for a Windows Domain have DNS serviceinstalled on the Domain Controllers.
