Windows 7, Unidentified Network-Limited Connectivity Wireless
I have a Vostro 1720 laptop for about 1.5 years, and until a month ago, its connected to Best Western (my workplace) internet just fine. Suddenly it just stopped and began to give the "limited connectivity" message. I tried a lot of commands and procedures that worked for others, to no avail. My final straw was to completely wipe and upgrade from my vista, to Windows 7 (Home ed). Now my computer runs 7, but still the problem remains. I've tried:Manually assigning an Ip address Resetting the Modem Turning off the Ipv6 Protocol Flushing DNS running Internet explorer no add-ons Winsock stack commands (netsh int ipv4/ipv6 reset reset.log) Stopping and Starting the DHCP service Checking for ##ip----- in the services list - Nothing found Checking for Bonjour in the services list - Nothing found Uninstalling and reinstalling the Drivers changing the Network from public/unidentified to private - changed back Backing up, then changing the reg edit {GUID} - failed, so I changed it backWiping the Hardrive and Installing Win 7 Took off Norton anti-virus completely (removal tool) Running in Safemode + networking Turned off windows 7 default firewall Assigning a random MAC address Under advanced properties in wireless card driverDisabling all connections except for Wireless connection

Does the modem connect to a telephone line. What other appliances / devices also connect to / use that telephone line? Are filters fitted for all these appliances and are those fitted working properly? In the UK Maplins are a good source of filters. They are not an expensive item to buy.Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell

I believe the modem connects to a phoneline, we use speedlinks here, and the cord is plugged into a phone-jack. As far as Im aware, every telephone is connected to the line, run to the front desk, then sent to the phone company, and the only other device(other than phone) would be a second modem(also speedlinks) for business purposes. At the moment I still cannot connect to either the guest or the business wifi. Both modems work properly, seeing as how several of my friends at work access the wireless no problem. As for filters, I have no Idea if they are fitted with them or not.

Liz Are your friends using the same router? Are any devices malfunctioning? Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information. Open Components under System Summary and click on Problem Devices. Is anything listed there? Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties, Hardware, and Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code? To see Hidden Devices (Non Plug and Play Drivers) you need to select View, Show Hidden Devices. It is necessary to do this every time you open Device Manager if you need to see them. A further complication can be Ghosted Devices –installed but not connected!http://www.lockergnome.com/windows/2005/04/29/display-hidden-devices-in-device-manager-xp/ Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell
