Windows 7 (32bit) update error 8000FFFF
Does anyone have an answer for this. I cannot install the updates manually - they seem to fail when downloading, just as they do when using automatic updates (fails at 11%). I don't have the reg keys mentioned above at HKLM\Components. I've disabled firewall and AV (McAfee), which hasn't been an issue for previous patches. I've tried installing in Safe Mode ... which you probably know doesn't work because a needed service can't be started. Any ideas?

Hi, to see the cause of Windows Vista or Windows 7 update failures, we must look for error messages in the following log files: Please run the Windows Explorer and go to the folder "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\" and copy all files to your document folder, also copy the setupapi.dev.log from the folder C:\Windows\Inf, the "C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log" and the file "C:\Windows\winsxs\poqexec.log" to your document folder (otherwise you can't upload it), zip all files into 1 ZIP and upload the zip to your SkyDrive [1] and post a link here. Hi, First, please boot in Clean Boot to check update. Also, as this issue is mostly caused by the incorrect registry key values, please refer to the following KB article to run the Fix It to test: Error code 0x80000FFF when you download updates on a Windows Vista-based computer by using Windows Update or Microsoft Update Rename the Windows Update Softwaredistribution folder ================================================ This problem may occur if the Windows Update Software distribution folder has been corrupted. We can refer to the following steps to rename this folder. Please note that the folder will be re-created the next time we visit the Windows Update site. 1. Click "Start", in "Start Search" item, type: "notepad" (without quotes) and press Enter. 2. Copy the following commands and then paste them into the opened Notepad window: net stop wuauserv ren %windir%\SoftwareDistribution SD.old net start wuauserv 3. After pasting the above commands, please close the Notepad window. Choose "Save" when you are prompted to save the file. Type "register.bat" as the file name and choose Desktop from the left panel as the location. 4. Refer to the Desktop and right click the register.bat file, then choose "Run as administrator". 5. You will see a DOS-like window processing. If it persists, please help me gather the following information and the log files which Andre asked: Collect the relevant registry key ======================== 1. Click "Start", type REGEDIT in the Start Search bar and press Enter. 2. Locate the following Registry batches by clicking the PLUS (+) sign HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Components 3. Please click "Components" on the left pane, right click on the branch name Components and choose "Export". 4. Save the branch on the Desktop with the name Components. 5. Go back to the Desktop, right-click the saved file, click "Send To", and click "Compressed (zipped) Folder". 6. A new file (compressed file) will be generated. You can refer to the following link to upload the information: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproui/thread/4fc10639-02db-4665-993a-08d865088d65 Regards, Sabrina This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees, and confers no rights. |Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
