Does anyone have an answer for this. I cannot install the updates manually - they seem to fail when downloading, just as they do when using automatic updates (fails at 11%). I don't have the reg keys mentioned above at HKLM\Components. I've disabled firewall and AV (McAfee), which hasn't been an issue for previous patches. I've tried installing in Safe Mode ... which you probably know doesn't work because a needed service can't be started. Any ideas?

Also, as this issue is mostly caused by the incorrect registry key values, please refer to the following KB article to run the Fix It to test: Error code 0x80000FFF when you download updates on a Windows Vista-based computer by using Windows Update or Microsoft Update Rename the Windows Update Softwaredistribution folder ================================================ This problem may occur if the Windows Update Software distribution folder has been corrupted. We can refer to the following steps to rename this folder. Please note that the folder will be re-created the next time we visit the Windows Update site. 1. Click "Start", in "Start Search" item, type: "notepad" (without quotes) and press Enter. 2. Copy the following commands and then paste them into the opened Notepad window: net stop wuauserv ren %windir%\SoftwareDistribution SD.old net start wuauserv 3.
