Windows 7 - Can't connect to FTP server on LAN when VPN connection is up.
The FTP server is IP 192.168.0.10 and the PC is 192.168.0.4 (IP is used so not DNS issue)
VPN is default gateway but routes clearly specify the LAN address.
Connection from other LAN PC's are O.K. - Firewall O.K.

With VPN, can you ping the FTP? If yes, can you telnet port 21?Bob Lin, MS-MVP Networking, Internet, Routing, VPN Troubleshooting on

If you can telnet FTP port, it could be passive mode issue. You may modify it depending on the software. This post may help too.

Others manage to use the same software (which has built in ftp) to the same server - so quite sure that it is not an active / passive issue. Not using ISA server either.
I have convienced myself now that the software must be selecting the wrong adaptor.
With VPN down - No problems at all, VPN up - MS ftp o.k. FileZilla o.k. Other ftp software not O.K. - routes (see above) above 192.168.0.0 point to network adaptor.

After a lot of confusion it was all the result of a domain name suffix (The host is a member of a domain) - when the VPN was up it was the default gateway and behaved quite differently - resolving the ftp target to a server not running ftp. When VPN down
all fine. The host was not in the domain dns - adding it solved the problem.
