Windows 7 - Local Admin - Not connected to domain
How would I make a domain user a local administrator on a laptop when the laptop is not located at the domain? Should/Could I make everybody who logs onto the laptop a local admin as long as they can log in? I have a user who's laptop is joined to the domain but not located physically at the domain network and wants to be an administrator on their laptop. To sign in, the users credentials is: domain\user password I could give the user the administrative username and password but they would like their username to be a local administrator. Doing a "Check name" for the user inside Computer Management > Local Users and Groups > Groups > Administrators Properties yields no results because the laptop is not at the domain network.

To add the user as a local admin the computer has to be connected to the domain when you are adding the user in the admin group. When in local users and groups choose the admin group and click add. Then select that it should search the domain for the user. hope it works for you. PS don't just give the user local admin rights just cause the want to. If they need to install programs tell them that you can do it for them. A local admin will cause you more problems with there computers. Hi, To assign local administrator privilege to the domain account, please perform the following steps. 1. Click Start menu and click Run Command. Type “control userpasswords2” and press Enter. If there is no Run Command, please refer to the following article to enable it. Show Run Command 2. In the opened window, please double click the domain account and select “Administrator” option, and then click OK. Then, the account will be granted the administrator privilege. Thanks, Novak
