Windows 7 - Problem to add printer by VB Script
Hello everybody, First off all I want to apologize for my english. Well, I have a domain on Windows Server 2008 R2 with both clients Windows XP and some Windows 7 (those computers are in a test phase). I have a VB Script which adds network drivers and printers. This script is working correctly with XP clients but not with Windows 7. Obviously this script is deployed by a GPO. I have allready test the solution <a href="http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/f12d3a68-00a7-412e-a210-e0f23d2b5c7d/">posted here</a> but I didn't work. Everyone has a solution, this could help ! Thanks !!

What happens if you disable UAC and try? Or if you locally excute the script from the windows 7 machine?

Hi Cyril, Did you try add this key in your Windows 7 client then reboot the computer? (Make a backup before you modify the registry in case of any risks) HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Printers\EnabledProtocols Type: DWORD Data: 6 Also install this hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-US;2388142 Regards, Miya This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. | Please remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hello, @ _P_K_ : I will try to disable UAC but if I run the script on the Windows 7 client nothing happens :( @ Miya : As I said in my original post, I tried to add this key in the register of the Windows 7 client but it made nothing. I'll try to install the hotfix and come back for the result :) Thanks Cyril

Hi ! So.. I've installed the hotfix and it seem it's not working. I have also checked that the key given previously was in the registry and she is. I've read <a href="http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/ITCG/thread/322CC2C2-C776-4782-B3F3-16025246C2CE"> this link </a> and consequently I made a GPO which "Point and print" parameter for the user configuration. This parameter is "Point and print restrictions" : I've checked "Users can only point and print on printers located on their forest" (I think this is the translation of french.. Moreover, I've selected "Dont show warning" on the two other lists. Something weird is that I tried to manually install the printer in the printers menu and when I enter the name of the server and the printer, the result is that Windows has found no pilot, which can explain my problem.. The printer server is on Windows 2K. Any ideas ? May be Windows 7 don't support a W2K print server ? Thanks ! Cyril

Hi Cyril, Try to change the local security policy in Windows 7 to check if it can find the printer. Click Start, input gpedit.msc in the search box, press Enter to open the Group Policy Editor. Navigate to: Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options On the right pane, double click Network security: LAN Manager authentication level, change to "Send LM&NTLM - user NTLMv2 session security if negotiated". Hello Miya, all, I come back because my problem is now solved. Actually it was a problem of permissions ! I made a GPO and I've set up the "Point and print restrictions" parameter. This parameter is now on "Disabled". It's important to notice that this parameter must be defined in Computer configuration when you run Windows 7/Windows Server 2008/Windows Vista SP2 whereas it must be defined in User configuration on Windows XP...
