Windows 7 Black Screen
Hi, I recently purchased a new pc(Packard Bell Imedia X4520UK) running windows 7 (64bit). I have installed a new ASUS graphics card (which has disabled the onboard graphics output). However, when I connect my widescreen Acer X223W monitor the screen goes black just after the windows startup screen appears. Mouse cursor still visible but nothing else.Any ideas?Regards

In my opinion, you issue is more related to your display card driver, it's better to apply the latest driver from ASUS to test. Of course, you can let us know your display card model, we can help you find a proper driver. Good luck! John

Hi,Many thanks for the reply. The graphics card I installed is a ASUS EN6200LE TC1G. I went onto ASUS site and NVIDIA site and downloaded latest drivers but still no joy. The somewhat iritating thing i that my other monitor (ACER AL1717) works fine......any ideas? This black screen issue seems common but tricky to solve......

Do you connect your monitors via the VGA cable or DVI cable? If they are using the same VGA or DVI cable and interface. If you use the same method to connect your monitors, it is too weird to slove. I recommend you connect your monitors via the VGA cables to your machine. Good luck!John

John,I connect the monitors via the VGA cables only. For your information, I removed the ASUS graphics card from the pc, then tested the ACER X223W monitor using the pc original vga ouput - the monitor works fine. In my simple way I think this demonstrates the problem rests with the asus graphics card/driver and it's compatibility with windows 7. Asus website (and microsoft windows wesite) both confirm the graphics card is compatible but that's hardly categorical evidence in my experience. If you can offer any guidance I would be most grateful. If I have to buy a HDMI monitor to connect to the pc's hdmi output I will but it seems an expensive way to solve a software issue.doozers

Ok, your issue may ocure if there is conflict between the ASUS graphic card and the intergrated graphiccard. You can try the following suggestions:Replug your ASUS graphic card, and update your BIOS, then disable the intergrated graphic card in the BIOS or disable it in the Device Manager. If you have trouble in disabling it in the Device Manager, you can boot in safe mode first, then remove the driver for the intergrated graphic card, after that, you should be able to disable it. At last, test your issue again.Good luck! John
