Windows 7 Fax & Scan: no response
I'm having problems trying to get Fax & Scan working under Windows 7 Pro x64. I have a Connexant PCI CX11252-11 soft modem that shows up as working in Device Manager and responds fine when queried from "Phone and Modem". It's selected under Fax & Scan Fax Settings (although the "Select fax device" button is greyed out), it's allowed to send and receive, Fax accounts shows it as connected. However, when sending a fax, the monitor reports the line as "busy" (it's not - there's a phone handset attached to the modem and dial-tone is accessible) or makes no attempt to ring (modem sounds are enabled and the answering phone is on site) then reports the call as not being answered. Trying to receive a fax when there is a call on the line also has no result: Fax & Scan reports that "the fax modem is curently sending or receiving a fax". I'm baffled - help would be appreciated.

Hi, The issue can be caused by incorrect drivers or setting in Fax and Scan. You can refer to the following method to troubleshoot the issue. If the issue persists, please check if any event log regarding this issue is available. Method 1: ------------------ Please download the latest driver from manufacture's site. Go to Device Manager to uninstall the current driver and install the new one instead. Make sure you have set Fax and Scan to work with the modern and test in Clean Boot. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Set-up-your-computer-to-send-and-receive-faxes http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 Method 2: ----------------- To turn on send and receive options for a modem: 1. Go to Windows Fax and Scan. 2. To use Fax view, at the bottom of the left pane, click Fax. 3. Click the Tools menu, and then click Fax Settings. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. 4. Click the General tab, and then, under Device name, make sure that the modem is selected. 5. Under Send/receive options, make sure that the Allow the device to send faxes check box is selected. 6. Make sure that the Allow the device to receive fax calls check box is selected, and then choose how to receive faxes. Method 3: ----------------- To give all users permission to send and receive faxes: 1. Go to Windows Fax and Scan. 2. To use Fax view, at the bottom of the left pane, click Fax. 3. Click the Tools menu, and then click Fax Settings. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. 4. Click the Security tab, and then, in the Group or user names box, click everyone. 5. In the Permissions for Everyone box, select the Allow check box next to the Fax permission, and then click OK.
