Windows 7 Freezing Up
Is anyone familiar with the drivers needed to control SARA Raid Drives under the Storage Controllers segment of the Device Manager in Windows 7 Pro (64bit)?
I am running two sets of Raid 1 drives.
My system started to freeze up and was requiring multiple reboots to get running again (Safe Mode, etc.).
Under the Storage Controllers listing in Device Manager, it listed multiple drivers:
1) “Intel® ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R/DO SATA RAID Controller” and 2) “Marvell Inc. – Storage – Marvell 61xx Raid Controller”.
After Reloading W7 with “Fresh Copies” eliminating various applications with no success (system still freezing after performing updates from Microsoft, I finally reloaded
the system and performing the update from Microsoft, LESS the update for the Marvell controller.
Now I just have one controller running (the Intel controller) and so far, no freeze up.
Am I correct in presuming that this was indeed the culprit? Summer Info on my system is as follows:

I've seen recent reports that the Marvell 6x drivers as supplied via MS Update is problematic, download and install it direct from Marvell or the motherboard/add-in-card maker (ASUS, in your case).
It looks like you should also install the chipset driver from ASUS, too.

Just curious, do I need that driver? It seems as though I always run into trouble when updating drivers from ASUS or anywhere for that matter.

If you aren't using the Marvell 6121 controller, I suggest disabling it in the BIOS settings. Windows wouldn't try to install drivers for it then. It might save you some time at startup as well, as the controller would no longer be checking for drives.
