Windows 7 Home Premium, no access to password protected folders on NAS (Maybe NTLM issue)
Hello I have recently bought a Iomega IX2-200 NAS Server. When trying to access password protected folder it comes up with "access denied". There are no problems accessing folders without password protection. I have solved the problem for my WIN 7 Pro by setting the policies regarding NTLM v2/v1 taken from this link: http://nw-doc.blogspot.dk/2011/12/network-file-sharing-in-windows-7.html I have had no luck with my home premium though. I have tried this: FOR HOME EDITION 1 . Open registry editor ( Start search - regedit) 2 . Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa 3. Create a new DWORD value with the following properties: NAME: LmCompatibilityLevel VALUE: 1 4. Restart your PC and try the connection again & Username & password on NAS folder & PC match each other. File sharing is ON 128-bit encryption is OFF Password protected sharing is OFF I have NO idea what to do next.. Please help..

right click on the folder you are getting problems with on the machine that can access the folder and go to properties>then security tab. Make sure the username for the PC you are getting access denied on is in here. If its not make sure to add it.

Well since the security is set on the NAS, I'm not allowed to change it from Windows unless I take ownership of the folder. I dont think that it will a good idea, but thanks anyhow...

well what your getting "access denied" is a permission issue. So you theres something wrong with the permissions and how they are set up for the other account which you can't access. So you need to check to make sure the permissions are set right. (which im guessing arent)

May I know who created the folder? Do you have the NAS administrator? Could you view or modify the folders when you logon with NAS administrator? You should get the ownership of the folder, to logon with the user account which created the folder for a test. Meanwhile, you may contact NAS manufacture for assistance.Ivan-Liu TechNet Community Support
