Windows 7 IE 8 - New Tabs Will Not Open
I have Windows 7 IE 8 - I have 2 tabs open automatically when I start up IE. I also have the internet options set to open tab tabs in every instance. Now - whenever I do a search, a new tab does NOT open, it opens over an old tab and then I lose that
information. How do I fix this? The only tabs that seem to open automatically are links but nothing else. I have to start a new tab by hand for everything. HELP!Terri

Hi,
According to your description, I suggest to perform these steps to troubleshoot the issue:
1 Running IE with NO add-ons:
Click
Start, input Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) into
Start Search box and press Enter. Change the cookie settings and have a test.
2 If the issue persists, you can reset IE as below:
Reset IE:
1) Open
Internet Explorer.
2) Click
Tools---
Internet Options.
3) On the
Security tab, click Default level button for each icon in the
Select a zone to view or change security settings.
4) Click to
Programs tab, and then click the Make default button if it is not grayed out.
5) Click to
Advanced tab, click Restore advanced settings button in the
Settings area.
6) Click the
Reset button in the Reset Internet Explorer settings area and Click
OK.
7) Click
Apply, and then click OK.
3 Create another user account for test.
Hope it helps.

Leo:
I decided to reinstall IE8 because none of the above worked, BUT when I did (and I chose Windows XP 64 bit) it came back and said "IE8 is not supported on this operating system".
Now - the interesting part is that when after I ran it, the download said for Windows Server 2003 64 bit which I never requested. I tried it several time asking for Windows XP 64 bit and this kept recurring..
Any suggestions?

Hi,
What version of your XP 64bit?
Please view this article:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc985359.aspx
That seems IE 8 just support to
Windows XP Professional x64
Hope that helps.

The version is Windows 7 64 bit - now what I have done is to install IE 9 Beta - have to play around with it, but this version is no better with the tabs and they are still not behaving!

Hi,
Open IE, go to internet option, click tab settings in General. Enable Tabbed Browsing, select “Always open pop-ups in a new tab”, also select “A
new tab in the current windows” in “Open links from other programs in”.
If the issue still persists, I suggest to ask IE forum for further help:
