Windows 7 Indexed Locations
Hello,Is there a way to add network locations to Windows 7 index via Group Policy? I have windows search 4 installed on our XP machines and have added network locations via GP just fine, but that policy doesn't work on Windows 7. Is there a different location as to the settings in GP?Currently my GP settings are configured in the following location:User/Admin Templates/Windows Components/Search

Hello, You should try to configure the followingitem in Group Policy: Computer Configuration/Admin Templates/Windows Components/Search/Default indexed paths Enabling this policy allows you to specify a list of paths to index by default. The user may override these paths and exclude them from indexing. Have a look at the link below: Group Policy for Windows Search I wish the information is helpful. Cecilia Zhou

Like I said in my post, I've tried using group policy. I have default indexed paths setup and they work fine with XP and Windows Search 4. But not in Windows 7.

Hi, You said you tried to configure User Configuration/Admin Templates/Windows Components/Search. However, I suggest you configure Computer Configuration/Admin Templates/Windows Components/Search/Default indexed paths. There is a difference. Regards. Cecilia Zhou

I apologize for leaving that out, but yes, I have entries in that location as well. The computer settings nor the user settings will apply to Win7

You should try to right-click on the network location and select "Always Available offline". It should be able to be indexed now. Good luck.Cecilia Zhou

I don't want to make it available offline. That's not the answer, that's a workaround. I have over 200 GB of data that needs to be indexed. It's absurd to make that available offline. I found the answer. I have a Win2k8 R2 server that I added the Indexing service too. Indexed the locations locally on the server and Windows 7 looks at those catalogs when the shares on that server are being searched.
