Windows 7 Kills my 3Com ADSL Broadband Router
Generic PC, Asus Mobo with integral net adapter. Nvidia video, Windows 7 RC. I installed Win7 using my LAN at work - no problems at all, a sweet install. Brought the machine home, hooked it into my home network on a 3Com ADSL Router and without fail, as soon as I plug the ethernet cable in - the router drops the broadband connection. My Other (mostly XP) boxes work fine. I tried using my secondary PCI RTL-8139 network card, that made no difference at all. 30 years in the business and I've never seen anything like this! Ideas anyone?!

Is it a Modem, or a Modem/Router? How the authentication is done? While the Internet drops can you connect through the Network to the other computer? I doubt that it is Win7 perse, there is some thing in the configuration or the topology that causes this.JackMDS

Hi Jack. It's a modem/router/Switch. As soon as you connect the Win7 machine the router appears to reset which means you can't connect to any other machine on the network. The machine behaved perfectly under XP-Pro. There's no authentication as such - the 3Com is also a DHCP server and my gut tells me that this is where the problem may lie. I am very puzzled.

Hi Some Routers have problem with DHCP when working with Vista. It could be similar issue with Windows 7. Take a look at this page, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233 JackMDS

Thanks Jack - but DHCP appears to be working fine. *sigh* Can't MS just re-release MS-DOS 6.2 ? :-)
