Windows 7 Laptop cannot detect Huawei USB Modem
I have a Huawei modem that I have been using with Windows XP and Windows Vista successfully. I recently tried using it with a WIndows 7 Laptop but it doesnt seem to recognise the modem. The interesting thing is that it recognises it as a USB device and I can even view the contents of the drive. But I cannot use the "AutoRun" facility or execute any applications on the USB - typically for installation of the device in Windows. It keeps throwing a message to the effect of "You do not have the necessary permissions for this file or folder". I am working with a custom user that has Administrator privileges. I did some digging and found that the modem has an upgrade patch for Windows 7 and I tried applying it. But to apply the patch, the software needs to detect the modem which it could not. Is there some security feature that may be blocking the detection of the device as a modem? What could the problem be? I haven't had much help with any Googling unfortunately.

I have a similar problem and it seems it has a hotfix you have to install before you connect the modem http://www.coolbuster.net/2010/01/huawei-modem-windows-7-hotfix.html
