Windows 7 Logon Takes 600 Seconds
We are getting warning messages in our domain controller when users logon to our Window 7 machines in our Windows 2003 domain. When users logon to our XP client machines their profiles works fine. "The winlogon notification subscriber <GPClient> is taking long time to handle the notification event (StartShell)" followed by "The winlogon notification subscriber <GPClient> took 600 second(s) to handle the notification event (StartShell). It will take 10 minutes for the users profile to get fully loaded. It shows a blue or black screen for 10 minutes and after that will login. All users are experiencing this problem on all of our Windows 7 professional client machines. The local admin and OU Admins accounts are not affected while logging onto the same computers. Only user accounts are affected..... Seems like a common issue, but I did not see a solution posted.

Which Group Policies do you apply? You can make a Process Monitor [1] boot trace to see what happens during the time. Unfortunately, there seems to be no easy solution. This seems to be another example of how Microsoft has lost their way...again! Having foisted the completely unusable Vista on us, they are now incflicting us with an error prone Win7 which they just cannot admit does not play well in a Wndows 2003 environment. This is Microsoft's way of letting us know you must upgrade to Server 2008 without spelling it out. It is their plea to put more money in their greedy pockets without them having to say this was never compatible with 2003 server. One day somebody will leak those internal e-mail and we will all share in the following class action suite to finally get our lost hours and grey hair reparated. Come on. somebody in Microsoft, step up and wiki-leak those e-mails. You'll be doing the world a big favor.
