Windows 7 My Documents folder fails to open
Hi,
I have an issue with Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, I'm having issues accessing the My Documents link from the start bar, it will work fine for the first hour or so of use, then suddenly clicking the Documents link it will no longer work, clicking the Documents
link does nothing and I'm no longer able to open the Documents folder, strangly its the only link affected, with Pictures, Music, Games etc still working fine.
I've checked the events log but could not see any obvious issues.
As a workaround I have a shortcut on the desktop which still works even once the Start/Document link fails, but I'd like to get to the bottom of the real problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hey :)
Next time you click on the link...open up Task manager and click on the performance tab. Click open My Documents and tell us what the CPU/Page file usage was.
Its a strange one i admit that...it works fine for an hour or so then no longer works? Has anything recently changed on your machine?

Hi, Scrub what I said previously about an hour, I think thats just because I dont usually go straight to the link and incorretly presumed it was working prior to clicking, I've tried going straight to the Documents link after a reboot and it isn't working
at all by the looks of it.
One thing I am noticing is that after I login, if I click my documents it will flash up briefly then dissappear, any subsequent clicks on the link I will see nothing, If I logout then login again and click the link, it will again briefly flash up and disappear,
then again any subsequent clicks on the link I see nothin.

Hi,
Please let me know if you have installed any software or update after upgrading to SP1? Can you access your Document folder through Windows Explorer?
You can
restore start menu to default settings or performing
a Clean Boot. If the issue persists, please right click the
Document in Start Menu and choose properties. Click the Restore Default button to check the result.

Hi,
Thank you very much, I tried the "Restore Default" button which has now resolved the issue, strangely the settings look identical to how they were before I used the restore option! But it worked so I'll keep that in the knowledge base incase it
happens again.

James
